Crow Lane Parking Petition

I would just like to say a great big thank you to everyone to who supported our parking petition, we achieved our goal of 3500 signatures . I have presented the petition to Bristol City Council and I have had a meeting with councillor Kent and Councillor Poultney responsible for Highways and Neighbourhoods and explained our issues that we have as customers and shopkeepers.

We have managed to raise money locally to have plans drawn up so that costing can be worked out then we can go back to the council to see where there are funds available to go ahead with this project.

I have explained the problems that customers are having with the lack of convenient parking spaces available especially at peak times and also how customers have regularly commented that they are not coming into Crow Lane as much because they can`t park and they are going elsewhere.

I have also explained the problems that shopkeepers are having receiving deliveries. It is not always easy to park at the rear of the shops and for some shops it is impossible given the resources available to them. So I have asked Keith Houghton the Henbury & Brentry co-ordinator to see if we could come up with temporary measures for loading bays at the front of the shops to be used at certain times of day until we can get something more permanent like they have in Westbury-on-Trym.

This is one of the problems we have as shopkeepers but there are also many more problems with cars double parking due to lack of the parking spaces. (see picture)

I have also asked the Henbury and Brentry Forum to look into opening up the alley way between the £1 shop and the Co op for easier access for disabled customers and Mum`s with pushchairs etc, who at the moment have to walk all the way round the bottom footpath by Iceland to access the shops from the back car park. I have suggested that as this is privately owned the Council could come to some arrangement with the owner to improve this area and maybe propose putting this on the Council Street Cleaning Rota to keep it tidy and improve the lighting in this area so that it feels a safe thoroughfare for all.”
