“I have been thinking of this question after watching the programme ‘Japan-Children of the Tsunami’ where you saw children from the communities destroyed by the water and earthquake trying to piece together a new life, and yet living in the hope that one day they will be able to return and rebuild the communities they loved.
It made me think, what makes a good community? Having everything we need obviously comes high on the list and we have good health care, Schools, Churches, Newsletter, Leisure facilities, Police force, Children’s’ centres, transport (even free to some) and Library to name but a few. Mainly, however a good community is made up of people and the vast majority of Henbury and Brentry folk are great. We are not perfect, but who is?
I believe we have three politicians who genuinely have our best interests at heart and we definitely have a team of volunteers who work tirelessly behind the scenes, with very little recognition or thanks, to try and improve things further and put on events for our enjoyment. A big thank you to you all.
Can I maybe encourage you to use this newsletter to see when the next community meetings are and think about attending. It would be a great encouragement to those who work hard to see some new faces showing an interest.
Finally, as a Christian I would like to wish you a very Happy Easter, the message of which can bring hope to any community. If you do not attend a church of your own a very big welcome awaits you at Emmanuel if you’d like to discover a little more what Easter is all about.
Whatever your faith, or none, I pray you will enjoy yourself this Easter, being part of the great community that Henbury and Brentry is.”
Paul Thompson, Minister, Emmanuel Chapel
